I chose to compete in the International Ms. Organization because of the values it represents. As a working woman with a diverse background, it spoke to me. But furthermore, their platform of "Still She Rose" resonated with me. Still She Rose is a wellness program for leaders, women, and teens in the pageant industry. It encourages wellness through self-care, positive body image, renewed self-esteem, and affirmation of one's identity beyond pageantry. It aims to engage in a conversation of support, honesty, reflection, and awareness in order to promote wellness as the foundation of the pageant industry.
This message hit home because I know what it feels like to hit a low while competing in pageants. That low was being diagnosed with breast cancer. Through this, I dealt with physical and emotional changes that sometimes threatened to break me. One thing that got me through was having a solid support system and getting mental health. This can be challenging within the minority community because getting mental health services can be seen as taboo, but it was my best decision.
Today, I can be fully rounded. This is thanks to years of dedication to my holistic well-being. I plan to spend my year as a titleholder, sharing my experience further and letting people know that our experiences don't define us. It is okay to struggle; normalizing this will genuinely improve how we see ourselves as women! Pageants should only bring out the best of us, and I plan to show how they did that for me!
Continue to stay tuned to see how I plan to embody this system to the best of my abilities!
Hugs,
Dymond
